Hight differences on planar ground

    I have calibrated the SArndbox on a table to test the holder for the beamer and the Kinect kamera.
    After the calibration I started the RawKinectViewer and measured some 3D points across the table.
    The hight values vary from -148 to -146,3 (difference of 1,7cm). The plane extraction measured an average hight of -147,75.
    The view of the Kinect is nearly exactly straight down [values from “extract plane”: (0.00511126, 0.00843884, 0.999951)]

    When I start the application the ground is very heterogeneous. But if I put something on the table (I have the half of a 3D printed geoid here) it has no problem with the projection.

    I tried to change the BoxLayout and the HightColorMap file but it didn’t get any better. Is there a way to get rid of this problem (for example a filter)? Does this get better if I use real sand? Or is it because of the resolution of the Kinect?
