has anyone created a rain cloud icon yet, going to use it for water.
I’ll be installing a trackball, great idea guys !!!!!

right now we use the mouse and it’s a hit, you can make it rain on the top of the mountain without leaking all over the place!!!!

put this file in /usr/share/icons/DMZ-White/cursors, replace the other (backup the old one if you want to use it later)
then change your cursor to DMZ-White in your appearance or theme setting-menu, depending if you use MATE or cinnamon.

xcursorgen is the program i used to create the custom cursor, it is built into Mint. To make your own custom animated cursor..

    1) create different “frames” in the image editor of your choice.
-create,modify,edit two to several .png files. each .png will act as one frame of your animated icon.

    2) create a xcursorgen config file
-in the same directory as your “frame” .png’s make a text file with this layout
    <size> <x offset> <y offset> <frame1.png> <refresh in ms>
    <size> <x offset> <y offset> <frame2.png> <refresh in ms>
    <size> <x offset> <y offset> <frame3.png> <refresh in ms>

    -mine looked like this

    48 0 0 1rain48.png 100
    48 0 0 2rain48.png 100

    save this file as xcursor.config

    3) create the cursor using xcursorgen
-place the .png files and the config file in the same directory and cd to it.

run this command xcursorgen xcursor.config left_ptr

    4) open /usr/share/icons/DMZ-White/cursors/ as root and drag the output file which is now named left_ptr and replace the default

    5) change your cursor to DMZ-White from the setting menu and ta-da!

Made a new one, more complex, sorry the old link was deleted

    drag to /usr/share/icons/DMZ-White/cursors/

replace and switch your cursor to DMZ-White from appearance or themes from the main Mint Menu

Bill, Jensen is the one doing the majority of the work on our sandbox in the Children’s Museum. He’s a beast with this stuff. =) Though I built the box, installed the OS and tossed a few shaders up, he has done pretty much everything else! Very happy with the way it has turned out.

We’re going to explore a joystick option as well… it would have the buttons AND the mouse control if all goes well. Otherwise, the trackball is our next best idea.

::EDIT:: Jensen, here’s the same file on our web server. No chance of it going anywhere!

they were all fun icons, great work.
could you make one more, about half the size and just a simple white cloud, maybe churning in on itself.
so it has a ‘clipart’ feel to it.
you should have seen me try to use the rain cloud icon thru the GUI when the sandbox was off, I couldn’t click on anything, lol I was always too high or too low.

but out of all the ones so far, I think i like this one !!!
I will have to find a way to flip it 180 degrees, when you stand in front of the sandbox the cursor is upside down.

    here comes the rain !!!!!

    Hey Jensen,
sorry to put you to work, but I promise to repay the favor if I am capable.
I should be able to use xcursorgen to convert the .pngs to X11 cursors

could you make something like this, but have it inverted, because when you stand at the front of the sandbox it’s upside down when viewing from that angle.

I made a cursor from the gif above, but when i tried to convert the grey background to transparency, the gif looked really bad, so i found another that might be more to your liking, its simply an undulating cloud. If you can convert the gif to .png frames that look good, i would be glad to convert it to a cursor file.

    The new cursor is left_ptr.4

I made a 48×48 a 32×32 and a 24×24 of this gif (it also goes through the animation a bit slower)

I could only convert and flip the 3rd of your choices, (transparency issues)

the third is centered and labeled left_ptr.5_24pixel, If you find any other .png or .gif that have a transparent background, i would be happy to convert those too if you like.

not bad, here is the small version dropping some rain
the best part about this icon is you don’t have to worry where you stand around the box, it looks the same from all directions.
