    Hi all

I am looking at eventually building my first sandbox, after a long wait due to work commitments.
    I have a few questions.

    1. I am looking at getting a 2nd hand pc with the following spec. Is this good enough spec, I will also probably upgrade the graphics to nVidia 950 for the water. Will the 2 x Xeon processor be good enough.
    Lenovo Thinkstation C20 with
    2 x Xeon Quad core cpu’s
    Intel Xeon E5620s – 2.40Ghz
    Max Turbo Frequency – 2.66Ghz
    12GB DDR3 Ram
    2TB hard drive and
    2 nVida graphics cards (nVidia NVS 300 – 512Mb)
    Windows 7 Professional 64bit version

    2. Also I want to eventually sell/rent my first sandbox, until I get better at the design. Is anyone in the UK interested in me building one for their school/college etc

    3. Maybe a question for the makers. I think that i have heard that Microsoft will no longer be providing the Kinect device, am I correct. What does this mean for the future of the AR Sandbox.

    Thanks
    Greg

Based on the hardware I have experimented with to run the sandbox program. the PC you speced should work fine.

I use a PC with Athlon X4 860K processor which is only slightly quicker than the E5620.

You wont need the 12 GB ram, 2 is plenty (I use 4GB only because I don’t have a 2GB module)
Drive space. you can fit the whole OS and sandbox on an 8GB flashdrive.

Video. Dont skimp on the video. not sure a 950 will make you happy, it may run, but at the lower edge of what you need. a 970 or better.

In the end I purchased a Dell T5500
    Hex Core Intel Xeon
    48GB DDR3 RAM
No HD as I have plenty spare ones
No Graphics Card, but just purchased MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 X 6 GB GDDR5
The graphics card cost nearly as much as the PC

If it all goes pear shaped, i can use it as a CAD station or take up gaming

No projector yet, hoping for black friday or xmas sales
All self financed, haven’t told anyone what im spending the cash on.
So if it works i’m hoping someone will give me something back
