Vrui-4.2 has a new feature that can inhibit the screen saver, meaning the screen will no longer go black when the mouse is not moved and no buttons are pressed for a while.

This feature relies on the DBus library, which is installed by the Build-* scripts, but which you did not seem to have at the time Vrui-4.2 was built.

You can either ignore the message, or install the DBus library, and then make and make install Vrui-4.2 again.

    sudo apt-get install libdbus-1-dev
    cd ~/src/Vrui-<version>-<build>
    make
    sudo make install

    Hi,Oliver
It seemed I had already installed the DBus library.
Not only the message, but also the projector didn’t display anything for the application.

    the whole message is
“Vrui:Unable to inhibit screen saver due to exception Vrui::ScreenSaverInhibitor
    DBus:Unable to inhibit screen saver”

It is possible that you’re not running a screen saver.

I am having the same issue. It appears that cinnamon screensaver does not have an inhibit method as reported by dbus-monitor and confirmed with qdbus org.cinnamon.ScreenSaver /ScreenSaver. Yes org.freedesktop.ScreenSaver is installed and listening to dbus on our system.

    Cinnamon!

    That’s why I recommend Mate. 🙂

I’ll look into it, but it’s not a big deal I guess.
